Multi Head Split Systems Melbourne

Multi Head Split Systems Allow Multiple Rooms With One Outdoor Unit
A multi head split system lets you heat and cool multiple rooms independently from a single outdoor unit, making it a flexible, cost-effective alternative to a full ducted system. And for eligible homeowners replacing a ducted gas heating system,
Victoria’s VEU rebate can take up to $2,940 off the installation cost. Beyond Heating & Cooling installs multi head split systems across Melbourne’s northern and eastern suburbs. We install Daikin as our preferred brand, and also work with Mitsubishi Electric and Haier
Multi Head Split System Installation Across Melbourne
A multi head split system connects multiple indoor wall units to a single outdoor compressor. Each indoor unit covers a separate room and can be controlled independently, so one family member can have the bedroom cool while another has the living room warm, all running from the one outdoor unit.
It’s a practical solution for homes that need heating and cooling across several rooms without the cost or complexity of a full ducted installation. One outdoor unit saves space outside, and each room gets its own dedicated climate control. Beyond Heating & Cooling installs Daikin as our preferred brand, and also works with Mitsubishi Electric and Haier where it suits the job.
VEU Rebates on Multi Head Split System Installation
Victoria’s VEU (Victorian Energy Upgrades) program provides rebates for eligible homeowners replacing gas heating with efficient reverse cycle air conditioning. Multi head split systems qualify — and the rebate for replacing a ducted gas system is significant.
Replacing a ducted gas system with a multi-head split system: Up to $2,940
Replacing a ducted gas system with 4 individual split systems: Up to $2,520
Installing without replacing an existing gas system: Up to $140
Beyond Heating & Cooling is a registered VEU provider. We confirm your eligibility during the assessment and handle all rebate paperwork — you don’t need to do anything separately.
Multi Head vs Ducted — Which Is Right for Your Home?
Both systems can replace a ducted gas heating system, but they suit different homes and priorities. A multi head split system makes more sense when:
- You want independent control of each room’s temperature
- You don’t need every room in the house covered — just the main living areas and bedrooms
- Ceiling space is limited and ducting isn’t practica
- Budget is a consideration and a full ducted system isn’t required
IA ducted system makes more sense when:
- You want every room covered from a single controller
- You prefer a cleaner aesthetic with no wall units — just ceiling vents
- You’re eligible for the higher VEU rebate of up to $5000
- You want heating and cooling treated as one whole-home system
For whole-home comfort from a single system with one controller, a ducted reverse cycle system is worth comparing.

How a Multi Head Split System Works
A reverse cycle multi head split system transfers heat rather than generating it — which is why it’s far more efficient than gas heating or older electric resistive heaters.
Each indoor unit works independently. In cooling mode, the unit draws warm air from the room, passes it over a refrigerant coil, and returns cool filtered air. In heating mode, heat energy is extracted from the outside air and transferred into the room.
All indoor units share the single outdoor compressor, which manages the refrigerant cycle across all connected rooms. Because the system moves heat rather than creates it, a quality reverse cycle system produces around three kilowatts of heating or cooling for every one kilowatt of electricity consumed.
Why Daikin — and Why Brand Matters
Beyond Heating & Cooling installs Daikin as our preferred split system brand. Daikin is one of the world’s largest air conditioning manufacturers with a strong reputation for reliability, energy efficiency, and after-sales support in Australia.
We also install Mitsubishi Electric and Haier where the job calls for it.
All brands we install meet VEU program requirements including a minimum 5-year warranty. We recommend what suits your home and budget, not what delivers the best margin.
